TGFC History
In the mid 1980’s Samuel Means began volunteering in social programs that addressed the needs of children, homeless people in shelters and adult patients in hospice care. Samuel’s interest in the academic and social development of children initiated his growth and interest in bible study for a youth group at the church he attended. The result of that experience led to developing and writing bible study material alongside creating workshops for both church and secular populations.
The name, Tree Growers For Christ Enrichment Center, was inspired by the admonition to make a conscious choice to raise socially and emotionally nurtured children to become healthy and productive members of the community. Originally, the major thrust of providing services to members of the community involved volunteering hour toward providing counseling services at the request of church members for relatives who did not attend and contacts in the community who sought help for a loved one.
In response to the work being done, the Pieces of a Healthy Child Campaign was initiated in 2009 to begin to address and effect social, moral, emotional, and spiritual change in the lives of children through mental health counseling both individually and in the family system. In recent years, TGFC enrichment Center has engaged partnerships with various individual organizations to help them mediate their way through emotional, mental, social, and spiritual challenges. Both Samuel and Rhonda Means are dedicated to using their talents and resources to bring educational and mental health services to disadvantaged communities.
TGFC Enrichment Center was formally recognized as a non-profit organization under the IRS status of a 501C (3) corporation in 2022. Our work continues by living our motto throughout our work: TELL them of their Heritage; TEACH the Good; TRAIN to Live.
We ask that you join us as we endeavor to link together the Pieces of a Heathy Child, Family, Church, & Community to help change the lives of disadvantaged men, women and children in need academically, emotionally, physically, socially and spiritually.
